Hello musical battlers, welcome back!! We hope you have had a restful break & are looking forward to a performance to work towards! Betty & I are very much looking forward to a fun, productive & engaging term of music. We have our fingers crossed that we will be back to face to face learning very soon!
Drum roll, please…
It’s concert time! This is such an exciting time for us musicians. We get to hone in on & refine our learned skills from the past 3 terms & work towards a polished performance. It is most likely that we will be having another digital concert, filming it from the YVSM studio & publishing the performances as a movie. Maria will be keeping up to date with what’s allowed, so if by chance something live is doable, she will go to every effort to make this possible for students. Guys, start thinking about your concert piece NOW!!
We have a large number of students taking on a video exam this term. YOU GUYS ROCK!!! Betty & I are so impressed with your resilience & adaptability. We wish you all the best with your exam, but most of all, no matter what the result…. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You DID IT, under the most difficult & bonkers circumstances… YOU ARE DOING IT!!!! Well done team!
Another drum roll, please…
Our term 2 practice competition winners are…
- Abigail Reid in the Intermediate Piano category with 193 points!

Please scan/photograph & send Maria your term 3 practice chart & be sure to include your holiday practice to be a contender in the term 3 practice competition.
Special mention…
A special, creative practice award will be given to Melita Campbell for spending a lot of time over 4 weeks composing a song, recording it & filming a music video to go with it. She composed a song based upon a personal hero that inspires her, and the result was powerful & motivating. A remarkable achievement & such a positive lockdown project!! Congratulations Melita!
Gushes…
We are so proud of EVERY student for their individual achievements during terms 2 & 3. Congratulations you go-getters, keep up the great work!
Remember that you need to submit a practice chart to be eligible to win a practice prize. You can find our printable, customised YVSM practice chart here. Winners from the last practice competition are published here.
Sad face…
Unfortunately, due to (yep, you guessed it! Covid,) the performance at Rochford wasn’t possible. Maria is keeping her finger on the pulse & will hopefully get the ball rolling for this open mic opportunity over the summer holidays in January. Please let Maria know if you are still interested. Prerequisites are over 14 years of age & able to perform professionally for 30 mins. Here’s hoping!
Necessaries…
Vaccination is a touchy topic & understandably so. YVSM does not want to be in a position where, as a creative studio, we must turn away clients for not being vaccinated (but this may end up being the case!) We believe that vaccination is a personal issue & we respect everybody’s right to choose how they navigate this. For the record, Maria & Martin have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
If you are having trouble with practice at home, please address this with your teacher and he/she can assist with ideas and ways to motivate your child to explore their music at home. We want our musical education to be enjoyable, not a boring chore. Please refer to our term 1 newsletter for ideas on how to encourage & motivate.
We are currently offering private online tuition for the following: Vocals, Piano, Guitar, Self-Accompaniment, Ukulele, Music Theory & VCE Tutoring.
Check-in with the YVSM website regularly for news & upcoming tips, tricks, videos, photos & more resources.
We require every client to have thoroughly read our terms and conditions & signed our online agreement form BEFORE the start of term 3 lessons. Our Policies and fees have changed as of July 1st, 2021, so it is crucial that you take 5-10 mins to read over the information, making sure you agree & you are not signing up for something that you would later dispute. Your time & cooperation is super appreciated. If you haven’t already read & signed the agreement, follow this link
For those of you who prefer to pay for your lessons weekly or fortnightly, we request that you pay in cash. It is simply much easier for our administration to manage.

READ CAREFULLY & FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. Please only make a payment into the YVSM bank account if you are paying the full discounted term fee upfront and on time. If you are paying weekly or fortnightly, we request that you pay with cash, but please speak to Maria if you have another payment method request and she will do her best to accommodate.
If you are making a payment directly into the YVSM bank account, it is important to keep the descriptions consistent so payments are easy to locate. Please follow the instructions below each time you make payment.
If you have one child with us please enter the child’s full name as well as what term you’re paying for. For example, ‘Jane Jones T4’. If you have more than one child with us please put just the surname followed by the term. For example, ‘Jones T4’.
If everyone consistently enters each term with a capital T followed directly by the number of the term with no space (i.e. Term 4 would be T4, it makes payment verification much simpler. Thank you.
